President Transue returns from vacation and leaves for Nanning, China, with professor Yi Li, to formalize a sister college agreement with Guangxi Teachers College.

Faculty Hiring sees the addition of several new faces to full-time faculty positions, and considers other recruitment measures.
The operating budget for Fiscal Year 98 has been received by the college and they are preparing for the upcoming year. This is followed by several key points, including:
Performance Funding, Worker Retraining, Equipment Budget, eligibility in the Exceptional Faculty Awards Program, and The 1st Generation Program.
On August 31, President Transue had a meeting with the Student Government Officers.
On August 17 President Transue met with Christopher Ensor, Executive Director of the Tacoma Area colalition of individuals with Disabilities (TACID).
PROTEC (Pierce County Education Consortium) is a consortium of the four community and technical colleges that have been investing approximately $12,000 each for the purposes of enhancing tech-prep programs throughout Pierce County.
On August 10, President Transue had a meeting with new Board member Laurie Jinkins. On July 8 President Transue attended a reception for Norm Dicks at the Tacoma Club.
On August 13, President Transue attended a reception of the Tacoma Art Museum and that evening attended a series of plays put on by the Tacoma Actors' Guild.
On August 11, president Transue celebrated Richard Bangs Colliers 80th birthday in building 13.
President Transue has included the FutureFocus brochure included in this paper-clipped packet. Efforts to establish values and a vision statement have been made and challenges have been identified.
The Capital visions Task Force has been working with Tsang Architectural partnership to develop a conceptual plan for the campus.
On August 19 TCC had a visit from Key Bank representatives.
President Transue spoke at a course that was being offered simultaneously in Tacoma, Yakima, and Spokane through the interactive teleconference room in building 7. The topic was chemical dependency counseling.
Early in August, President Transue attended her first AACC Board meeting. While President Transue was in Washington, President Clinton signed a major workforce bill. Microsoft has made a major donation of software to community and technical colleges. Tacoma Community College received $400,000.00 in software; one of the largest contributions. This included copies of Office '97.
On August 12, TCC held its Executive Staff Retrief. Draft goals for the year were reviewed and goals were placed within Future Focus priorities to ensure the college moves forward with its implementation.
On August 28, President Transue met with Alan Hammond, the Dean of the University of Phoenix campus in Bellevue, Washington.
Executive Staff had their annual one-on-one evaluations.
