Scope and Contents

Memorandum to Board Members from the President regarding campus events, community visits, and other current events related to the operations of TCC. On April 8, the faculty contract was ratified by a unanimous vote. The TCC Distance Learning Classroom is up and running in the Learning Resources Building. Capital Issues and the Office of Financial Management. Minor Projects List for the State Board for the 1999-2001 biennium has been submitted. A special meeting at the Washington Community Technical College Presidents in May discusses concerns about Loss of local control. New policy regarding the use of state resources by the State Executive Ethics Boards. Availability of Minutes of Board Meetings and Executive Staff Meetings will be made via the college intranet. Continuing Education Plan Completed as the consulting firm of Kerr, Kechter, and Associates have submitted their final report on a strategic plan for contreact, continuing, and community education. A County Coordinating Council discussed a computing services plan for the state system. A Guangxi College Trip would be necessary to cement an agreement. TCC has joined other colleges in particpating in President Clinton's initiative on Race. A Western Policy Exchange meeting organized by WICHE and the Kellogg Foundation, involving legislators, commission members, presidents, students, and superintendents to discuss change in Higher Ed took place in Spokane, Washington from May 18-19. President Transue was elected to the AACC Board subject to ratification by the existing board. President Transue was invited to be ao n panel of presidents at one of the pre-convention sessions for the AACC national meeting in Miami. A University of Washington Proposal for 2+1+1 Distance B.A. Degree with Washington Community and Technical College presidents saw support. The board has directed a campus climate survey to be conducted. Honorary Degrees were discussed for the Weyerhauser family. President Transue continued to meet monthly with fellow community and technical college presidents. The Multicultural Diversity Council met on March 18. Institutional effectiveness will be assessed by the Future Focus recomnmendations, and the need for an Institutional Effectiveness Council to oversee the process and ensure that it is conducted appropriately on an annual basis will be considered. President Transue continued to meet with a group of community leaders devoted to finding solutions to the need for a stable arts community, by way of a Study Commission on the Arts. A reception for Betsy Brenner was attended by President Transue. A Title VIII proposal was submitted to the Department of Education for funds in the amount of $1.1 million over five years. A 1998-1999 operating budget from the state provided additional funding for enrollment and more. An allocation of 250 FTE led to worker retraining availability. Faculty hiring for the Art department has completed, and Marit Berg has been selected for position. President Transue provided welcoming remarks to a conference of students with disabilities. A CTC visit was made. On March 25, President Transue had tea in her office with several women who support community colleges. On April 3 President Transue had tea with Richard Bangs Collier, the founder of the Pleneurethics Society. President Transue has dinner with Professor Taguchi of the University of Tamagawa. "Get Acquainted" sessions continue. On April 7 the United Way Executives Day of Caring included a pancake breakfast and saw the participation of President Transue. A notice from the Governor's Appointment Office that someone did not turn in their paperwork at the time of last appointment.
