Scope and Contents

Memorandum to Board Members from the President regarding campus events, community visits, and other current events related to the operations of TCC. The November 19 President's Diversity Council Meeting on hiring processes, and the Multicultural Advisory Council meeting on December 3 meeting on the Future Focus Effort including the development of a sub-committee to develop framework for a mentoring project. On November 20, Pamela Transue met with Kay Rhodes of the Medicine Creek Tribal College on the Puyallup Reservation to discuss development of certifications and coursework in areas related to international trade. On november 24, President Transue met with Alice Payne at the Washington Correctional Center for Women to go over a number of programs available there. On November 26 Doctor Transue met with Ed Command of Highline Community College to discuss the history of community colleges in Washington. On December 3, the President met with Erling Mork, Executive Director of the Economic Development Board. Doctor Transue also visited the Evergreen Bridge Program and toured the Facility. On the December 15, Pamela Transue and Lily Warnick visited with the Cheney Foundation and discussed funding and capital projects. The HELP Academy is available to help employees avoid grievances and litigation when working for the state and the training is encouraged by TCC. An Off-Campus Plan with a local firm to help off-campus continuing education and short-term training programs to develop a business and marketing plan for the college. TCC Future Focus proposals are returned and a meeting is set for March 9, 1998. The First Generation Scholarship Project through the Weyerhauser Family receives some funding. TCC Reports 25 FTE for Worker Retraining Proposals. Instructor Yi Li and a student plan to discuss a sister college arrangement with Guangxi Teachers College in Southern China. More "Get Acquainted" sessionsfor individuals around campus to provide feedback about working and studying at TCC. Thanksgiving Activities consists of a short holiday brief. On December 4, Doctor Transue met with Craig Swenson, Regional Director of the University of Phoenix. On December 11 the college held its Holiday Luncheon and Excellence Awards Ceremony. December 11 and 12 saw the WACTC meetinging at Lake Washington Technical College, with a brief on the Governor's Budget and the Washington Scholars Group. The University of Washington Board of Regents invited Doctor Transue to Lunch with the Board of Regents at the Tacoma Campus. The Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges Annual meeting took place on December 13 in Portland, Oregon. TCC bomb scare was a false alarm. On December 17 a Retirees Reception took place at the College. On December 18, at South Puget Sound Community College, Intel gave a presentation on the establishment of programs to train semi-conductor technicians. On December 29, Doctor Transue had Dinner with Lua Pritchard and Sun Bok Dang of the Korean Women's Association.
