Scope and Contents

This stapled packet by the President of the College for the Board of Trustees contains a broad overview of relevant information necessary for college governance. The WACTC Meeting took place on October 23-24. Presentations to the Capital Budget Committee were made, including one by Pamela Transue that brokered further discussion on a full membership with the WACTC. Additionally, the WACTC Presidents Academy was devoted to a series of WorkFirst presentations, and a coalition of agencies including DSHS are mentioned. Higher Education Endowment Fund Proposals at the $250,000,000 dollar level with $500,000.00 for five years to support students, faculty, equipment, and other priorities as needed. A State Indexing Proposal to shift financial aid resourced provided by the state from independent students attending public schools to dependent students attending private universities and colleges. Pamela Transue has been asked by the National Council on Continuing Education and Training to be their candidate for the AACC Board of Directors, representing continuing education on the AACC Board. Faculty negotiations on contracts are underway and the creation of a Capital Vision Task Force is proposed to plan for the next century of community service. Performance indicators with the State Board are briefly discussed. A joint Meeting with the Tacoma Public Schools, with topics like new standards and testing policies. TCC Student News regarding an October 30, 1997 article with Budi Mulyo, President of the International Student Union regarding a number of initiatives. TCC Future Focus Phase I is the first phase of a project to lead an all-campus gathering involving faculty, administrative and classified staff, and students. Proposals for an Off-Campus plan by President Pamela Transue at the board's request that TCC visibility be increased in the community. Technology Advisory Committee chair Shane Conway will provide advice to Executive Staff in making wise use of scarce technological resources. "Get Acquainted" Meetings with departments across the college campus to allow individuals to share their opinions about what they like best about the college, what they want to see preserved and enhanced, what they think needs to be worked on and improved. Community News is a general outlet for events in the community featuring other leaders and influential personae, meetings with COngressman Norm Dicks, Senator Patty Murray, and Kay Rhodes of the Medicine Creek Tribal College in Puyallup.
