This small collection contains records relating to the Tacoma Community College Faculty Association in 1966 before they separated from state governance in 1967. Materials are comprised of a draft constitution, bylaws, and lists of full-time and part-time faculty in 1966.

Historical Note

Prior to 1967 and state control of the community colleges, faculty were represented nationally by the Faculty Association of Tacoma Community College. As described in the draft constitution of the Faculty Association, its purposes were to:

  • To afford an agency for the presentation and discussion of professional questions of interests to the members;
  • To promote the general interests of the group;
  • To provide for affiliation with the Washington Education Association, in accordance with Article V, Section I of the Association, and the National Education Association;
  • To provide for cooperation with the Washington and National Education Associations and such other organizations as shall interest the membership of the group.
    •  On July 27, 1967, the Board of Trustees recognized the Tacoma Community College Association (TCCA) as the sole representative of certificated personnel (faculty) hired by TCC. TCCA was followed, in March 1972, by the Tacoma Community College Federation of Teachers (TCCFT), Local 2196 of the AFL-CIO union.
