Biographical note
Katherine Hiyane-Brown, a native of Kapaa on the Hawaiian island of Kauai,came to Tacoma Community College in the summer of 1991 with extensive experience. The former Acting Dean of Instruction at Muscatine Community College in Muscatine, Iowa, she moved on to Leeward Community College as the Dean of Instruction, before relocating to the Pacific Northwest and taking a position with the Tacoma Community College, where she succeeded Frank Garratt as he returned to a teaching role. Alongside her responsibilities at TCC, she found time to finish her doctoral studies in Higher Education Administration and Staff Development at the University of Iowa.
