Biographical note
Richard J. Deyoe was a longtime Tacoma Community College counselor, who began his work for the college on September 12, 1969. He was originally from New York City, New York, where he attended Bayside High School. He held a B.S. in education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1956. He received his master's in counseling in 1967 from California State College at Los Angeles and spent ten years teaching at the Junior and Senior high-schools in Olympia, Washington and Tucson, Arizona, where he also worked in adult education. Richard was very much involved with professional societies over the course of his life. He was affiliated with the NEA, the WEA, and the OEA, where he had served as a past president, and was also involved with the WSPGA and the WWPGA. Richard, or Dick as he was known to his friends, spent his entire career at Tacoma Community College as a counselor, and he became the department chair from 1975-77, and again from 1986-87. He retired on June 19, 1989 after 20 years of service to the college. Richard J. Deyoe passed away March 19, 2015.
