Biographical note
Robert Sheak Arpke was born on June 30, 1918. He served as a Captain in the Second World War, and earned a degree in English. He was a John Hay Fellow at Harvard University from 1959-60 and had a passion for judging children's spelling bees. He taught at Tacoma Community College and the University of Washington. Captain and teacher Robert Arpke passed away on December 24, 2001. He is buried at Tahoma National Cemetary in Kent, King County, Washington.
