Biographical
Shirley Ruth Harris-Lee was born August 20, 1936 in Chehalis, Washington, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington School of Nursing in 1958. Active in two book clubs, a 21 year member of the PEO (Promoting Educational Opportunities for Women) and a former board member of the Harmony Hill Cancer and Wellness Retreat Center, she remained very active in the community throughout her life. Shirley worked for the Peninsula School District, the only nurse on staff. She also taught nursing at Pacific Lutheran University, and spent time as a public health nurse in Seattle. In 2001, Shirley retired from the Tacoma community College, where she had served as the assistant vice president for workforce education and institutional effectiveness. She worked for TCC for 25 years as a faculty member of the nursing program. She was known on campus for her practical knowledge of pediatrics. Shirley Ruth Harris-Lee passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2014 at the University of Washington Health Center. She was 78.
